With this cold weather hitting us lately I really wish I can hibernate until Spring. The past week have been colder than normal, with snow hitting many parts of Spain. Thankfully, we’ve not been affected, but the low temperatures are more than enough to make me really dislike the early morning school runs.
But with the whole family being sick from Wednesday with a bad cold (I was secretly glad to get a break from the driving), I took it upon myself to go and treat the whole family to some comfort food. A trip to the British supermarket always goes down well, and this time I decided to get a little bit more to cheer us all up. Even though I like Spanish food, I can only take so much paella and tapas, and I would rather have my comfort food from England, especially at this time of year.
One of the good things about living here, is that I get to eat healthily most of the time, so indulging on a few digestives and bar of chocolate (maybe two) at the end of the week isn’t going to hurt. But there are so many things I miss from living abroad! Things that I took for granted , such as having an Indian/Chinese take out on weekends or a take-away that can actually find where we live! Or having a decent slice of thick bread that doesn’t go hard after a few hours…. you know just the little things!
Here are just some of the things on my list, it might not look exciting I know, but if you’re an expat, I’m sure you’ll fully understand.
Hot Chocolate
Crumpets
Asian spices
Sausage rolls
Bread
CHOCOLATES
Rice pudding
Crisps
Pickles
Gravy
Baked beans
Bacon
Cakes
Even though I spent more than I should have on food for this week, there wasn’t a tinge of regret (Nope, not one!). There are so many things that we miss, and in my house, they don’t last for long. They boys love food from England, and we have sort of made it a monthly treat where I would stock up all the necessities, such as chocolates! What are things that you and your kids miss from living abroad? Do you stock up like crazy?! 😀
