Impress your family and friends with this sticky, Korean spicy chicken wings. Ideal for special occasions or just a quick mid-week treat.
After living in Spain for 7 years now, I find myself really missing the flavours I grew up with. Don’t get me wrong, Spanish food is delicious, but my taste buds crave variety. I spent 10 years of my childhood in the Philippines, and then another 25 years in the UK as an adult. So you can imagine, my food preferences are all over the map! Cooking dishes that remind me of home has become a cherished hobby since moving here. So, even though I can’t indulge in Spanish cuisine every day, I make sure to whip up something special from scratch for my family to enjoy.
Oh, dinner times can be such a hassle sometimes, don’t you agree? My family always expects me to whip up something homemade, whether it’s the classic beef stroganoff , filipino lumpia, simple egg fried rice, fideua, or chicken adobo – you name it, I make it from scratch!
Yesterday, my son was craving pizza, but we were fresh out of cheese. Luckily, I had picked up some chicken wings earlier in the day. He suggested Korean Spicy Chicken Wings instead, but alas, I was missing a few key ingredients. After a bit of brainstorming, I decided to give it a shot anyway, improvising with what I had on hand. So, instead of Korean chilli paste, I used sriracha, and white wine stood in for rice wine.

Coming from an Asian household, we’ve always experimented with different chicken wing recipes, but the sweet and spicy ones are definitely the crowd-pleasers in our home!

Korean Style Crunchy, Sweet And Spicy Chicken Wings
Sweet, sticky and spicy chicken wings with a Korean flavour. Easy to make and delicious!
Ingredients
Marinade
- 1 kg chicken wings
- 2 tbsp dry white wine
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp garlic salt
- 1 ½ tsp black pepper
- 120 g cornflour (for coating)
Sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 3 tbsp sriracha sauce
- 235 ml honey
- 50 g brown sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp minced ginger
Garnish
- white sesame seeds
- chopped spring onions
Instructions
- Place chicken wings in a sealable plastic bag and add the marinade ingredients apart from the cornflour. Make sure to evenly coat the chicken wings in the spices and set aside for at least 30 minutes.
- Once marinaded, coat the chicken in cornflour and heat up a wok with enough oil to deep fry. Make sure that the oil is hot enough so that the chicken will cook evenly.
- When the oil is at boiling point (around 175°C), fry the chicken wings for about 4-5 minutes until it's slightly brown but not golden. Take out the chicken and set aside on a paper towel. Continue to fry the rest of the wings making sure not to overcrowd your wok. Do this until all your wings are slightly fried.
- Once the batch has been fried, remove any floating debris from the pan. Return the chicken into the hot oil and cook until golden brown or when the chicken is cooked. Set aside.
Make the sauce
- Add all the sauce ingredients in a small pan. Place in low heat and stir until the mixture bubbles, then remove from the hob.
- Place the fried chicken wings in a large bowl and pour the sauce over and mix until all are evenly coated. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions. Serve and enjoy!!
