Now that restrictions are slowly being lifted in Valencia this March, soon we’ll be able to visit all our favourite places again, have a meal, drink and just enjoy being, well, a little bit ‘normal’. Here are just some of my favourite places in Valencia I would love to visit once we’re allowed again!
I’ve given up reporting on how things are in Valencia during this pandemic. Why? Because, to be honest, nothing much has changed. We’re still confined in our own community, we still can’t meet up with friends and we are still waiting for the government to get their act together regarding the vaccines.
For the last month, we have been unable to visit the city during weekends. The rule was placed a month ago, to prevent city dwellers from leaving and non-city residents from entering. Since the relaxation of lockdown, going to the city on weekends was our only escape. Now we can’t even do that until the beginning of March. I know it’s all for the good of everything, but I can’t help but miss doing the normal things and visiting places that we love.
So just to reminisce I would like to list some of the things I want to do and places I want to visit post-pandemic. I know it’s not forever but for now, I can only dream and hope that soon we’ll be able to enjoy those things that we often took for granted…
Favourite Places In Valencia I Want To Visit Post Pandemic
Breakfast at the beach!
One of the best things about living in Valencia is having the beach so close. During weekends there’s nothing we love more than having a stroll on the beach finishing off with a nice breakfast after. Malvarossa and Patacona beach are our favourites beach in the city. During the month of March (pre-pandemic time) there’s usually a kite festival in Valencia beach that my son loves taking part in. You will also find concerts and open markets here during the weekend.

Shopping and paseo at the old town
Valencia city is one of the largest historic centres in Europe and has been the home to Romans, Muslims and Visigoths since 130 B.C. Strolling around the old town is one of the best things to do especially if you appreciate culture art and tradition. There is always something to see, from quaint boutique shops, museums, street art, historic points and more! There’s nothing more I love to do than discover shops and places that I’ve never been to before, and then finishing off with delicious tapas on one of the terraces while enjoying the world go by.

Dine at our favourite Italian restaurant
Valencia city is a melting pot of cultures, and there’s no lack of restaurants and tapas bars to try whatever cuisine takes your fancy. There’s nothing we love more than visiting our favourite Italian restaurant San Tommaso situated in ‘little Italy’ in the old town of Valencia. It’s a great place to visit for lunch or if you fancy something romantic then I would suggest to give it a go. We went there on our anniversary meal last year, and I do miss going back!

Visit the Mercado Cental
If you’re looking for fresh food porn, then head over to the Mercado Central! Even if I don’t plan to buy anything I just love browsing and taking photos of the freshest produce they offer. I also miss visiting my favourite bar, the Central Bar, where you’ll find fresh produce from the market prepared and served in this small but very popular food place. Just make sure you turn up early to get a spot!

Enjoy an hour at Cafe de las Horas
This place has got to be one of my favourite places to grab a drink or two. Cafe de las Horas is a beautiful neo-baroque style wine bar situated about 3 minutes walk from the cathedral, just around the corner from the Plaza de Virgen. It’s a place that I visit often when I’m in the area. Apparently, Cafe de las Horas is one of the best cafes in Valencia, and they’re probably not wrong. Whether I want a cocktail, coffee and cake or just somewhere to go on a romantic evening, it’s definitely a great place to hang out. And if you ever visit, I totally recommend the Agua de Valencia, they claim it’s the best in town!

Check out La Granadella again…
Last year we headed off to one of the best calas in the Valencian community. Unfortunately, there were too many people there already and we felt that it wasn’t the best idea to pitch a spot while the pandemic is still going on. Hopefully, before summer, we can visit and check out Granadella again, as it’s been on my wishlist for a while now.

Take part in the ‘Ruta de Tapa’
‘Ruta de Tapa’ or ‘Tapa Route’, is a tradition held in many towns and cities in Spain including Valencia. During the month of July, our local town holds a ‘ruta de tapa’ for a week, where you can visit the bars, have a drink and a free tapa or tapas. You are then asked to vote for your favourite tapas in the bar and place them in a ballot box which usually kept in the town hall. The bar with the most votes will then be considered as the winner for that year. It’s a great way to sample local Spanish tapas, a bit like a pub crawl but so much better and with food!

Final thoughts
Oh, there’s so many things I want to do and places I want to visit when this pandemic is finally over! We’ve all been denied by doing normal things for over a year now, and I can only hope that things will get back to normal soon. What about you? What things would you LOVE to do once the restrictions are lifted?
