Blogging is always a challenge. Even for bloggers who have been doing it for a while. Bloggers blog about different things and for different reasons. But what we have in common are the challenges that we face such as creating valuable content and having a loyal audience to read and share our posts.

A lot of effort goes on behind the scenes. Sometimes on my low points, I wonder why the hell am I blogging for? But I blog because I love writing and I love the engagement that I get from like-minded bloggers from around the world.

I write about several topics, from lifestyle, travel, blogging to family life. It’s not always easy to keep an audience from a variety of subjects. Many bloggers have a specific niche, I have a few, and sometimes, trying to keep up is a challenge in itself.

So with a light-hearted overview, I would like to share with you some of the frustrations and achievements that I have experienced over the years as a blogger.

bloggers blockOnce in a while, you’ll lose your blogging mojo. You’ll find yourself staring at a blank screen trying to catch a whiff of inspiration.

candleBurning the midnight oil and literally spending hours and hours writing, finding images, editing images, proof-reading 100x just to make sure your content is ‘perfect’…

facepalm…then you hit publish and notice a typo!!!

pooThere are days when your blogging self-esteem is like a steaming pile of poo! Anything you write about or do is just not good enough!

heartWhen a brand collaboration email pops up and your heart skips a beat…

broken heart…then finding out they want your blood for free and the product they want you to write about is not even relevant to your blog.

cry Taking hundreds of photos for the perfect blog images and then finding out that you only like a couple.

guiltFeeling guilty about everything because you think you spend most of your time blogging and working.

statsBeing obsessed with stats and traffic! Argghh, make it stop!!! Seriously, I need more!

annoyedHaving a great idea your head and then finding it difficult to express it through writing.

partyWhen someone from the same niche follows your blog and social media accounts! We love you! Thank you!

groupsThe great support and camaraderie that you have found on Facebook Groups. Having reassurance that you’re not alone!

coolThe feeling of utter smugness knowing you’ve organised and scheduled your blog posts for the next few weeks.

juggle…your blogging confidence returns and you feel like you can do anything! Bring it on!!!

cartwheelWhen all that SEO and quality content is finally paying off…

seo…because your life is ruled by these three colours….

Social Media…and you spend a lot of time on social media!

So there you go my lovelies, a description of my blogging highs and lows using emojis. I hope they’ve amused you and also gave you some reassurance that us bloggers go through similar dilemmas and triumphs. Remember, you’re not alone!

  1. I love this! Such a perfect way to some up this crazy world of blogging. Off to Pin this to my blogging board! 🙂

  2. This post is humorously accurate – well done! I haven’t really had any lows as such, but one of my posts has been shared over 250 times on Facebook, which I’m really proud of x

  3. Haha I loved this! I think a steaming pile of poo is something I feel often about blogging. I have love/hate phases with blogging recently. Those traffic light signals are the bane of my life, I can never get one of the green!

  4. Haha this pretty much sums it up. At the moment I feel like I’m struggling with motivation … nonetheless it’s not something I’m willing to give up easily 🙂

  5. This made me chuckle, love the choice of emoji’s. I find taking a break can help get your mojo back

  6. I love how you’ve described your highs and lows using emojis! Very apt. We tend to find that its like a rollercoaster sometimes and we just do it for fun!

  7. Musings of a tired mummy...zzz...

Great use of emojis! Blogging is a really personal journey but I think we can all identify with all of these!

  8. So true! I’m more on Facebook than I ever was. And the word algorithim is like in my head. When people talk about Instagram, I’m thinking about it more from a promoting standpoint rather than “oh pretty pictures!”

  9. Ha ha – love this! Perfectly sums up my blogging life! Especially the little heart and then broken heart ?

  10. Love this! 🙂 Especially the one about being obsessed with the statistics 😀 I have to keep reminding myself constantly to start checking it them all the time and that it’s not stats for why I blog but that I blog because I love to write 🙂 So even if just one person reads it, it’s actually pretty cool!

  11. I hear you. I hate the days were I become so fixated on stats on traffic because it really makes me obsessive and burn the candle at both ends x

  12. Really well-done post, Maria! The emojis really make it. 😉 I wrote a behind the scenes post recently as well. Blogging is way harder than it looks!
