It was Sam’s 3rd Birthday over a week ago, and we wanted to do something special now that he’s starting to understand what Birthdays are all about. We initially planned a big party with family and friends, but with the majority of guest had other commitments, which was unfortunate and we didn’t manage to give Sam a ‘proper’ birthday do.
But of course, not wanting to spoil the day, we thought that we should go ahead with giving him a personalised cake even though there was only a handful of us. Well… more for us really. Happy Days!
I guess the most difficult thing about choosing a personalised cake is the quality. I wanted something that Sam would relate to, and because he is such a big Peppa Pig fan, we thought that a George Pig cake would be ideal. But finding the right cake maker to do it is another thing.
I trawled the internet and Yellow Pages for a few days but couldn’t find anyone who appealed to me and also who offered a reasonable price. I don’t know about you, but personally, the company’s website is a big deal for me, maybe that’s because I create them myself, I know what I like and don’t like.
There were many cake makers that I found out there, but the style, layout of their websites really put me off. Many had images that are hard to view, galleries that aren’t working, no contact forms and testimonials. With a large majority of people looking on the internet more and more for things like these, it helps when your website is up to date, concise and clean.
Luckily, I stumbled on to Nicola’s site. Rainbow Cakes is a small family business based is Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Her site looked clean, precise, informative and her gallery of cake work are absolutely amazing.
I contacted Nicola 2 weeks before Sam’s birthday, great communication and she knew exactly what I wanted. We discussed my requirements and the collection date. The whole thing was very straight forward. She also contacted me a few days later to let me know that I will also be getting 12 FREE cupcakes as I am collecting Sam’s cake on Wednesday. Rainbow Cakes offers 12 FREE cupcakes to any cakes collected from Tuesday to Thursday. So that was a definite bonus!!!
Date of collection, Sam’s cake was ready, Nicola kindly wrapped it up in florists paper, ribbons with added tissue paper as I requested that it needs to be hidden because I had Sam in the car with me… The cupcakes came separately in a box which makes it a lot easier to transport.
This is the George Pig cake, I took a quick pic when I got home, you probably would agree that it’s absolutely amazing!
I highly recommend Rainbow Cakes, the service and quality that I received was top class, and I would definitely contact Nicola again if another special occasion arise.
Thank you so much, Nicola, for making Sam’s day very special! 🙂
