So far I have experienced three different types of ‘Autumns’ in my lifetime. Having been spent my young life back in the Philippines, we don’t have the Autumn season, but what we did have was a lot of rain at this time of the year. I was far too young to remember, but leaves didn’t change colours nor we celebrated things such as Halloween. But that was OK, when I came to the UK at age 10, that was the first time I experienced Autumn, and I loved it. <3
Depicting a similar scene from a calendar, I was there first hand to see the leaves change colours, the temperature dropped very low and those short cold and drizzly nights that makes you glad to come home to an open fire and hot cup of cocoa. To me, that’s what Autumn is all about.
When the kids were born we always enjoyed our walk home from school kicking wet leaves and sometimes making angels the park. And of course the best thing about Autumn is Halloween, every year and no fail, we would decorate the house up with spooky goings decos, and go out trick or treating with our best scary costumes.
Now that we live in Valencia, Autumns are a lot milder, Halloween is not that popular. But that’s OK, we have had our share of experience and it’s nice to have something different for a change. During autumn, the temperatures are still up to 25ºc-30ºc, but this is also the ‘wetter’ season, rain can be torrential but also quick.
Instead of trees losing their leaves we have new oranges growing all around. Having the cooler and comfortable weather is a nice change from the searing heat of the summer, autumn’s in Valencia are great for sorting out the home and garden, taking day trips and long walks in the morning and evening.
This year, with the help of the SITS girls writing prompt, I’ve decided to create an autumn bucket list from this side of the world of course with a little difference.
10 Autumn Bucket List
- Make something tasty with this year’s squash harvest
- Plan something for my husband and me for our 9th year anniversary next month
- Take more photos of Valencia city
- Finish reading at least two books
- Make an apple pie, using reineta cooking apples
- Visit a local winery
- Start being organised for Christmas!
- Attend or host a Halloween Party
- Find out if they have a pumpkin patch in Valencia
- Gather up wood from our campo ready for winter

Oh WOW, that first place would be PERFECT for Fall family portraits!!
This place is called Rogethorpe Manor in England and it is often used as a wedding venue, yes its a great backdrop to taking autumn photos, its situated in the countryside, so very picturesque. 🙂
I would definitely get married there, it’s gorgeous! And so is your son!!!
